I was re-watching bits of Series 1 today, and was struck by the number of things predicted in dialogue between Matthew and Mary that became true.

Mary would have to tell him (about Pamuk), and she does before they become engaged.

"I can’t be sure, of you, or of anything," becomes, "Please don’t take me there again unless you’re sure," and, "I am sure."

"Would you have stayed, if I’d accepted you?" transforms into, "Would you stay, if I asked you to?"

"Wish me luck, Mary," leads to, "Goodbye, and such good luck."

I’m sure there are many others.

Their love story has this wonderful arc to it, as they trade these lines, as though for every doubt Matthew holds in his heart that Mary hears him and every minute Mary fears that no one listens, these small phrases provide proof that they need not doubt or fear these things of each other.
